Craig is currently based in Singapore and as a digital learning consultant he supports schools in their digital learning transformation journey.
Craig is well known for his dedication to education through Social Media, with over 42,000 followers on Twitter. He is an Apple Professional Learning Specialist (one of only 20+ in Asia), Apple Teacher, Google Certified Educator (Level 1&2), Google Certified Innovator, Common Sense Certified Educator, SeeSaw Ambassador and has a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning and a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Administration. He was rewarded as one of only three teachers in New Zealand by being invited to the NZ Leadership Institution Young Leaders Programme. He is a leading change agent, being involved in the makeover of several schools ICT hardware and integration programs, with a particular focus on pedagogy to support curriculum integration of technology. All software will be free, open and ready to use immediately. The pedagogical principles that support success in your classroom will be explored. You’ll also be encouraged to create a lesson (or part-lesson) that you can implement on Monday. It is essential you have your fully-charged laptop with a strong internet connection.

Coming from non-teaching education background, taking a leap to be a teacher was a challenging journey. Just like any other skills, teaching is also an art which could be established and nurtured. Based on years of teaching experience, there are two key points to be a better teacher; eagerness to learn and passion in teaching. This workshop is suitable for new teacher with or without teaching education background. Through this workshop, participants will get to learn about teaching strategies and classroom management, which are gained from my experience and my study in Finland.

We often don’t realize that children never “stop”. They always have their mind and body active (except when they are sleeping), as they play, study and following schedules and routines. We heard teachers complain about how difficult their students are to concentrate on their work. They can’t “stop” for a while to listen, read and analyze their work, as their ‘monkey minds’ (that’s what we call their active, untamed minds) are playing around all the time. They think about too many things at the same time. They get angry and ‘cranky’ easily as they are too tired, body and mind. They are not able to show empathy to others, as they even find difficulties to be aware and take care of their own emotions.
In this session, we are going to explore some strategies to help children to be kind, focused and calm. The mindfulness activities we will be exploring have been applied to the students at school, and it has shown a pleasing result.

Morning meetings are a time when students and teachers gather together, usually in a circle, for an organized start-of-day activity. They can be as quick as 15 minutes or as long as 30. We determine this based on what students need to start their day as lifelong learners. The broad purpose of a morning meeting is to transition students between home and school, to greet them as you would a guest in your house. It's an informal way to make everyone familiar with each other and with the classroom situation. You can start by welcoming students, reviewing the day's activities, discussing changes in the classroom, meeting new students, celebrating the accomplishments of classmates, and anything else that benefits from a whole-group meeting.

Managing a classroom with students who have additional needs, such as learning or behavioural problems, can add a lot of stress on a teacher and create potential disruption in a classroom. But, it need not take a lot of additional effort or change to create a harmonious and inclusive learning environment. During my workshop, I will give you some practical guidance and advice on small changes that can have a big impact, and make your classroom a much more peaceful place to teach.

Whether students’ engagement with the lesson, with the teachers or with the methods, all are playing a significant role in making effective learning. We will discuss several strategies in increasing students’ engagement in these areas, also how to see and observe whether students are engaged with the lesson or not.

Imagine walking along the rim of an active volcano or seeing ancient Roman ruins come to life before your eyes. Nowadays, you don’t necessarily have to imagine. Immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) can bring vivid experiences like these to the classroom, with advocates highlighting the technology’s ability to inspire and grab the attention of students in this new era of learning.
Immersive media makes the possible transformation to learn the impossible. Students can learn about space, active volcano, insect, until the internal human body system with fully immersed experience and interactive two-way of learning. Bringing the next level of learning and teaching in the classroom environment.

As math teachers we all want our students to do more than memorize facts and solve equations. We want our students to understand concepts and apply them in the real world. So how is this accomplished? While many teachers recognize the value of inquiry-based learning, many may find it a challenging approach when teaching mathematics. During this workshop participants will explore the value of inquiry-based learning and learn how to create learning environments, which allow students to question, problem solve and experience
Math.

What does good writing look like?

Most students know what this looks like, but many struggle to achieve it. How do we develop confident writers? In every subject, students will be faced with writing reports. Across their academic careers, strong report writing skills are essential; so expositional writing is the primary focus of the strategies presented; however, a number of the tools provides are valuable in creative writing too. The strategies examined are applicable for all age levels.

We will look at the power of using exemplars; at strong paragraph structures and at useful scaffolds for building writing confidence. A strong paragraph structure is a winning formula that once learned will be a key factor in helping students pass exams later in their schooling.

I will cover the use of the 6+1 rubric for writing; and how to develop our own rubrics as tools for self / peer and teacher assessment.  Attendees will be provided with practical hands-on activities to explore the concepts covered; in this activity we will look at moderation of student work.

I hope to complete the session by providing a tool for support of both formal and creative writing. Ultimately I hope to provide my attendees with practical skills and resurces for developing confident writers. 

Classroom means a bonding between the teacher and the students where everyone gets the opportunity to explore under a positive environment. Every child is unique and has different qualities. As an educator it is our prime responsibility to sharpen those qualities. Lesson plans were supposed to be created based on the students ability and not well in advance or during the Holidays. 21 st Century demands the teachers to be well equipped to develop the skills of the students.

Learning within and beyond the walls is a fruit of teacher’s strategy in honing, planning, implementing and reflecting skills of the students. Each successful lesson or topic may start with the lessons from the book and from the set vision-mission and goals of an institution, but when translated to the students’ world it becomes more meaningful and somehow be extended outside their world.

I would like to share some stories and thoughts on projects that happened and worked well and may still be tweaked or improved in the students' language learning class. The ideas are grounded from the curricula and school’s goal to develop values and 21st century skills.

A story can be one of many medias that can be used to learn culture and language. There are various genres of stories which can be applied as teaching instruments. Stories can stimulate imagination and bring the students into the imaginary world. The students may learn many things whether they realize it or not. At this time, the participants will be introduced to some characters in three different stories from Indonesia, America and Japan. Every character has a different quality. They have all experienced different things in this life. The participants also will transform these three characters into puppets and do a short performance. Hopefully we can share something from this presentation.

Student engagement can be every
educator’s challenge regardless of how
many years of experience they are in the
field. Student-centred classrooms might
be something which is ideal for some but
difficult for other teachers to establish. A
student-centred classroom requires a
teacher to loosen its grip in ‘controlling’ the
class by allowing the learners to construct
their knowledge through active
participation. Science learning stations
use differentiated instruction where
learners can gather information based on
their skill or interest. Student motivation is
increased as they work on an activity of
their interest and appropriate level without
the pressure from peers to finish the
activity at the same time. Learners benefit
from opportunities working alone or by
collaboration with other students. The
teacher as a facilitator of the learning
process ensures that the students will
share responsibility for their own learning.

Technology integration is the use of tech resources such as computers, mobile devices, social media, digital camera, software application and others in daily classroom practices and in the management of a school. With technology, students or teachers will use it as a second nature. Students are often more actively engaged in project when technology tools are used as part of the learning process. In this session, participants will learn how to integrate technology in learning or in assessment. Participants will explore the SAMR model to integrate technology.

When teachers talk to students, we have the tendancy to unintentionally forget the place where they are coming from and to dismiss students' emotions. We need to rethink the ways to talk and listen so our students can learn. This presentation will get you in to the mental state of many of our students, talk about why students' emotions are the first thing we must consider, why they are so important, and offer ways that allow teachers to show students that their emotions are valued. This session will look at different approaches to dealing with problems in the classroom that invite cooperation and respect the things that students are feeling. Attending this session will give you skills that you can use immediately to know what NOT to do or say,  understand where students are coming from, relate to your students, diffuse situations and discipline students. The skills you learn have the real potential to make your students better problem solvers as well as happier people later in life.

Active Learning has students at its centre. As a method which is in stark contrast with the traditional methods of learning, Active Learning seeks to focus on not just what students learn, but essentially how they learn. There is a renewed focus on how students think, and more importantly, teaching them how to think about thinking

This presentation will focus upon different ways to make learning more meaningful in the classroom. Some of the focus areas will be how to actively engage students at the beginning of a lesson, assessment of and for learning, designing success criteria and the importance of a powerful feedback

One of our key responsibilities as teacher leaders is to maintain positive attitudes toward students, staff and parents to ensure that all children can learn. This includes demonstrating concern and openness in the consideration of student, teacher and/or parent problems and participating in the resolution of such problems where appropriate and modeling appropriate relations skills. (McEwan, 2003.) It is easy to be gracious and warm to parents who are positive and cooperative, but how do you handle those who question and accuse? 
In this workshop, we will tackle the reason why so many parents are angry, troubled, afraid or difficult. You will practice the T.A.K.E. A. L.E.A.P strategy so you can respond to angry or troubled parents. You will also learn steps on how to solve problems with parents and practice proactive strategies that will help create a nurturing and healthy classroom/school. 

Teaching in pre-K-12 classrooms is not a 9-5 job. The preparation and actual work are almost impossible to separate from one’s personal life. Many teachers’ experience frustration and exhaustion due to workload, parents’ expectations and demands from the school. This can take its toll on teachers physically, mentally especially the emotionally. These may lead to teacher burnout or teachers leaving a profession they love.

What emotional competencies do teachers need? In younger grades or with more challenging students, identifying, understanding and managing emotion is certainly required. At all levels, our teachers need confidence in their teaching abilities and boundaries when questioned by parents or challenged by students. When angered…by a student, colleague, policy or parent, effective teachers need to manage their reaction and respond in a professional manner.
The mastery of emotional competencies is a lifelong process. Therefore, it is critical for us to know what are the things we need to do before entering the classroom so we are prepared physically, mentally and  emotionally.

Many private pre-schools in Indonesia have started not only to teach English and use English as the medium language but also to teach reading in English. There are several ways of teaching reading, but in this subject
the writer focus on Letterland, how Letterland can help children to learn to read and how the teachers adopt the method. Letterland is a method of teaching reading to young learners; created by Lyn Wendon and used in many countries, including Indonesia. Letterland is a way of teaching reading which focus on phonemic awareness, the letters’ sound or phonic and also a multi- sensory system for teaching to read, write and spell. What make Letterland different is, it is developed as a real land/place where all the letters are alive as pictogram characters which have their own special characters, names, sounds, songs, action trick, shapes and
stories (Manson and Wendon, 2003).

Dampak yang terlihat langsung dari revolusi industri 4.0 dalam bidang pendidikan, khususnya dalam proses belajar mengajar adalah guru bukan satu-satunya sumber informasi bagi siswanya. Media sosial dan berbagai aplikasi sudah menjadi sumber informasi yang lebih cepat dan akurat daripada sosok guru. Sampai-sampai tugas mengajar sudah digantikan oleh robot atau hologram teacher. Inilah tantangan yang harus dihadapi oleh banyak guru di seluruh dunia.
Solusi yang saya tawarkan adalah guru harus mengasah kreativitasnya dalam membangun relasi dengan siswanya. Membangun relasi sekarang menjadi poin penting kemampuan guru agar perannya tidak digantikan oleh robot.
Ada dua cara membangun relasi dengan siswa, yaitu pertama guru harus menganggap semua siswanya adalah bintang atau juara. Jika hal ini dilakukan guru maka siswa akan mempunyai rasa percaya diri bahwa mereka mampu belajar. Guru diharapkan selalu melakukan discovering ability kepada siswanya. Guru juga harus memandang kemampuan siswanya seluas samudera, yaitu sikap, keterampilan dan pengetahuan. Guru juga harus memahami multiple intelligences siswanya.
Sedangkan yang kedua adalah guru harus menjadikan siswa subyek pendidikan, bukan lagi obyek pendidikan. Materi ajar harus sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa. Melibatkan siswa dalam proses belajar dan memperhatikan bakat dan minat siswanya.

The presentation will use SDGs as the springboard to talk about climate change. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our times, which needs immediate attention. As teachers, we play a critical role as facilitators of learning in the lives of our learners. Through my talk, I would like to share some tried and tested hands-on strategies that teachers can apply in their classrooms across curriculum and grades.
